Given the importance of the air force in the modern battle, and its pivotal role that is indispensable to any armed force, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Great King of the country, the Supreme Commander, may God protect him, ordered the formation of the Royal Bahraini Air Force on May 8, 1976 AD.

  Extensive studies have already been prepared in light of the requirements of the Bahrain Defense Force and the capabilities of the country, then he began preparing technical cadres, and training the pilots who formed the nucleus of this vital weapon, and in the meantime, specifically on February 5, 1977, the planes arrived The helicopter to the special shelf ((Balco 105)), and on September 4, 1979 the arrival of the helicopters began to arrive, the helicopter squadron ((Type Bl 212)), and on April 26, 1982 AD, the late, God willing, His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, may God rest his soul, Riffa Air Base, and its flag was handed over on February 5, 1980.

The process of developing the Royal Bahraini Air Force continues by highly-qualifying its cadres and providing it with modern equipment, devices and aircraft. On December 12, 1985 AD, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Great King of the country, the Supreme Commander, may God protect him and his patronage, announced the arrival of a number of modern combat aircraft of the type (F-5), and their accession to service in the Royal Bahraini Air Force, and on May 28, 1990 AD. And maintaining them with complex sensitive devices, all of them were pilots and technicians, when they believed them, and at the level of responsibility entrusted to them.
The participation of the Royal Bahraini Air Force among the weapons of other defense force units in the battle to liberate the sisterly State of Kuwait was one of the most prominent achievements of the pilots and technicians of the Royal Bahraini Air Force, as they performed well, and implemented what was asked of them in a spirit of sacrifice and heroism, and with a high level of combat efficiency, emphasizing the integrity of the approach. And the principles upon which their leadership is guided, and they were honored for their role and their outstanding honorable performance. On that occasion, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Great King of the country, the Supreme Commander, may God protect him, said: (This performance of our brave hawks was the result of continuous training and the good preparation that you are doing. The Bahrain Defense Force in order to protect this dear country and its achievements and to participate with their brothers in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to achieve security and stability for this region). Its various equipment, where the helicopters (Black Hawk) and (Cobra) were entered into service. In addition to the “RG” and “Boeing 737” air transport aircraft, which is a qualitative leap in the history of the Royal Bahraini Air Force, and the entry of this special type of aircraft comes as a confirmation of the strategic approach of development and modernization witnessed by the Bahrain Defense Force’s weapons and units .

To inaugurate these aircraft, he said: (The entry of these aircraft into service with the Royal Bahraini Air Force is a qualitative leap in the history of this weapon. and to complement the combat aviation system in this vital weapon).  The development process of the Royal Bahraini Air Force continues. On January 12, 2010, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Supreme Commander of the country, may God protect him, included under his kind patronage the opening ceremony of the Sakhir Air Base and the first edition of the exhibition Bahrain International Aviation, organized by the Royal Bahraini Air Force, and the Great King of the country, the Supreme Commander, may God protect him, affirmed on this occasion by saying: (The opening of this air base is an important event that will provide vital and glorious services to our dear country, as it is one of the bases with multiple missions and uses, for what is due For the benefit of our dear country and our honorable citizens), His Majesty added, “The opening of this air base coincides with an important air exhibition, the Bahrain International Air Show, which is being held in the Kingdom of Bahrain for the first time with its multiple military, civil and commercial uses.”

This exhibition is the first advanced aviation exhibition to be held in the territory of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is also a great achievement in addition to the achievements of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and it raises Bahrain's position on the international map in the field of aviation, and the organization of international exhibitions.
Great achievements follow. On February 8, 2011, His Majesty the Great, the Supreme Commander of the country, may God protect him and his patronage, included under his high patronage the celebration held at Riffa Air Base on the occasion of the inauguration of the aircraft (Black Hawk M) and its facilities. The King of the country, the Supreme Commander, delivered May God protect and patronize him in his high speech on this occasion, saying: (It is good luck to meet you today at Riffa Air Base, which is one of the solid pillars on which our proud defense force was built, and the site from which the establishment of the Royal Bahraini Air Force was launched, to become today one of the most important advanced weapons The development stages of this vital weapon continued with the addition of the “Bell 412” helicopters, and the Royal Bahraini Air Force also includes the “Hawk” air defense system.
